A court in Kiev has ruled against plans for Ukraine’s first gay-pride demonstration.

A district court judge today found in favor of city authorities, who argued against approving the rally, based on fears that it would lead to violence and could disturb annual Kiev Day celebrations.

Last year, plans for a gay pride parade were dropped after police said they could not protect marchers and one of the organizers was beaten by an anti-gay mob.

LGBT rights are a hot topic in Ukraine. The parliament is considering a ban on “gay propaganda” as well as a proposed antidiscrimination law that would apply to sexual minorities.

Ik vind het schandalig dat holebi's nog steeds geen erkenning krijgen in bepaalde landen. Homofobie is een levenskeuze, holebi zijn is dat niet. En ik vind dat het hoog tijd word dat we al die religieuze onnozelaars van hun hoge toren halen (laten we even eerlijk zijn, de hedendaagse religie hadden we al die zever niet).
